I Survived My First Day...

The great first day of school is over and I survived it!! I get so nervous about it- freak out because I can't remember what you are suppose to do the first few days...besides teach rules, procedures, and try an establish a routine.

It doesn't help that I was switched to teaching a 3rd/4th split a little less than two weeks before school started. I am still starting to wrap my head around that fact. Secretly I was really nervous about it, but after meeting my students today everything will be fine. I have a feeling I might love it.
Here's a little classroom action...hard at work on our name tags.

Highlights of the day:
- A student requesting a book about Pictured Rocks and being able to fill that request.
- Using Hooway for Wodney Wat to introduce Read to Self. They loved it!!
- Having students say "Are we going to do that again?" "I loved it." when talking about Read to Self.
- Playing Four Corners as Trivia using the numbers 3 and 4.
- Having students make their own name tags with little clue charts - like cursive, maps, and multiplication chart they know would be helpful for them.
- Having students have a good handle on the expectations so I could walk to the other side of the room with no "Oh, Ms.Lang is gone." with dance moves following. And believe me my "other" side of the room is not what you think.
- Able to work hard and quietly. Smiles here!

Hope everyone else's first day and few weeks have been going well!

  1. I read Wodney Wat to my first graders today and they loved it too! I'm not sure what I'd do if I found out I was switching grades only 2 weeks before school starts, and to a combo too. Wow!Glad your first day was a good one!
