October Update

Lately it seems like everything else has been taking over and I have been left with little motivation for those little blog of mine. I am starting to feel like a stranger to parts of this blogging world. Here is a glimpse of what has been happening in our second grade classroom.

We have been traveling to the rainforest to learn about them and Ancient Mayans. As a class we created a rainforest mural with each group working on a rainforest layer.

We also made sculptures to go with it. Thank goodness for salt dough!! It has saved me a few times.

We took our first field trip of the year to our local NOAA. We learned about the watershed with a sweet water table. We did some water testing, searched, collected and identified some aquatic macro invertebrates (while also chanting this long name).

When we returned to the classroom we worked on making fish prints from rubber fish and identifying what local fish they were combined with a writing about the watershed.

Sorry...forget photos of the finished product. But it was awesome to hear the students talk about the fish and which ones they had caught.

We have been busy working with Ajax the Alligator. More to come on him soon. He has his own story and everything.

Now we are busy in the process of learning about the election and finishing up our Math Facts Levels. Thanks to Gladys at Teaching in High Heels for the awesome Election Packet!!

Conferences are just around the bend and busy preparing for those, but I promise that I have some great packets and goodies coming soon.
