Snakes, Spiders, and Reading Oh My! {Freebie}

Two important facts to remember in this post:
1. I have a strong dislike for snakes.
2. My co-teacher has a strong dislike for spiders.

We have been doing Book-It in our classroom all year. If you are a Book-It participant you know that March is the last month of the program, but there are still a few months left of school.

Along with Book-It, we have worked in classroom reading competitions into our room. Each of us teacher takes a team. First, it was the Cats vs. Dogs that was a part of Scholastic's program. Cats (my team!!) came from behind to win that race. Right now we are in the midst of Pirates vs. Ninjas. Ninjas (not my team) have been in the lead since the beginning. Each competition has come with its own prizes for the winning team and the top readers.

After Spring Break we are starting our final reading competition of the year. Snakes vs. Spiders! Here is where the facts come in. The winning team will get to see the teacher of the losing team face their fear. So in my best case scenario the winning team will be Snakes and we get to watch my co-teacher confront a spider. You can bet I will be reading like a fiend to not come in contact with a snake.

To help us keep track I created reading calendars similar to Book-Its for students to fill out. There are two sets of April and May calendars. One is a snake and spider version. The other is a normal spring version for each month. Click on either picture to get your set of calendar.

Enjoy!

  1. What a great incentive! We're also doing Book-It! and was wondering what to do for the rest of the year - now I have some ideas!
