IT'S ABOUT TIME!!
We were very busy the last week of school with field trips and a carnival, but here are some of our other highlights from the week.
We were suppose to build one during our Arctic Unit, but lacked the space. After removing a couple bookshelves we finally had room. It was hot glue galore! We had been collecting milk jugs since the beginning of the year and ran out. The students loved the chance to build it! Our final masterpiece was not quite perfect, but it was entirely student constructed.
What do you do with all your broken crayons?
Well, we recycled and transformed them into designers' crayons. Each student picked their favorite colors, placed them in a well-oiled muffin tin. Then I melted them in the oven for 15 minutes at 230 degrees. This is such a simple activity. The bonus is students LOVE it! It is like magic to them!
To celebrate our last math class we had our multiplication ice cream party. We followed it up by playing Minute to Win games. The favorite game was Blow Me Over.
Okay, so I have to admit this would be something I change. I am either going to not claim my strong dislike and fear of snakes or going to convince my students that I am afraid of puppies. Our reading competition ended and even though my team was in the lead most of the time we lost! I was shocked! I was even the top reader because I was doing all I could to not touch a snake. To learn more about the reading competition click here.
The summary is my team lost so I had to touch a snake. My co-teacher and I headed to local pet store. It took me ten minutes to walk up to the first cage upon seeing the snake. Then I saw the second cage and did my best girl imitation...screaming, running, laughing, jumping...you name it I did it. It took another ten or more minutes to get me close to both cages. I am afraid of snakes!! I didn't touch one, but I did touch the cage. It doesn't help when your choices are pythons!

We had two field trips. The first was a field day at a local park for relay races, playground and some more Minute to Win It Games. The second was putt-putting.
The last day of school was our school-wide carnival complete with a bounce house, climbing wall games and a dunk tank. If you were wondering I was one of the lucky teachers in the dunk tank!! At least we are also equipped with water guns to return the favor.
Happy Summer!!
