First Two Weeks In Pictures

In case you missed it or in case I forget to share (the latter is more likely), I moved up to teaching a 3rd/4th grade split. I was nervous about it, but I have grown to really like it.  Here are some of the happenings of our room and school the first two weeks.
This past week we started practicing math centers with some review activities. Some of them are old pros at it. We will be getting in the full swing soon.

We practiced how to work in groups using marshmallows and spaghetti noodles. The groups had the task of making the biggest or tallest structure they could with these two materials. Then the groups had to grade themselves on how well they worked together. (This is not my own idea, but I can't remember where I got it from. If you know I would love to credit who's it is.)

We have been busy setting up Daily 5 (or Daily 3 in our case). Students are loving it. Our stamina is increasing. There are many who like to read like a boss.

We have family meetings every morning to discuss an aspect of the classroom or how to work together. Here we are role playing procedures and how to give our friends reminders if they don't follow them.

Since we are a smaller school with K-12 under the same roof, the secondary students put on a field day during the first week for us elementary folks. It included parachutes, volleyball, face painting, Capture the Flag, and some good ole Duck, Duck, Goose.
