In an attempt to keep everything straight and organized, I knew I had to do something to make sure I was on the right track. Otherwise, I was going to drown in a pile of paperwork, standards and all my sticky notes of what students were assessed with what skills. I searched for Common Core checklists and couldn't find anything that was what I needed.
Side note: I have to stress the fact here that yes I have third and fourth graders in my classroom, but that does not mean the third graders only learn third grade curriculum and the fourth only fourth grade. Our school encourages us to teach students at the level they are ready for and the parents expect it so I needed more flexibility than anything I was finding with the checklists.
That's how these two creations came about: Click on the pictures to check them out on TpT.
So to help myself out, I typed out all the Common Core State Standards...yes it is tedious, but it helped me see the connections. Then to get even more familiar with them I turned the standards into I can statements. So handy to have all this ready to use.
But my favorite part let's me do this:
It is all the I can statements in a checklist so I can mark off which students have met it. Yes it is great to know the percent of students who mastered it, but even more helpful when I can see exactly who did or didn't. Since it is in the I can terms (aka student approved) it is easy to use when I have the students self-evaluate themselves. Currently we have been working on place value hard core, which happens to mainly be second or fourth grade standards, so far, so good.
